BARRIE, ONT. Barrie s Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre (RVH) has a unique way to honour mom on Mother s Day. The mammography equipment at RVH sees a lot of traffic, with approximately 85 mammograms done a day. The hospital s four ageing units need replacing with new state-of-the-art equipment. The hospital has created a special e-card that you can personalize for Mother s Day.
The cards are $5 each. All proceeds raised will go towards purchasing new mammography imaging equipment at RVH. All donations will be matched.

Twenty-two residents from the Simcoe-Muskoka region have died at home with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.
Those deaths do not include residents of long-term care homes who have died with the disease, but could include people living in retirement homes and group homes.
The Canadian Press reported last week there is an increase in the number of COVID patients dying at home in Ontario. Between April 1 and April 22, coroners have seen 25 cases of people in southern and central Ontario who have died of coronavirus disease at home. The ages of the victims ranged from the late 20s to their late 80s.
BARRIE, ONT. The number of COVID-19 cases registered in Simcoe Muskoka since the pandemic began has crossed the 10,000 mark. The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is reporting 283 infections since their last report on Friday, pushing the region s total to 10,097 cases. The active case count sits at 1,313; 910 of those are variant cases. Bradford West Gwillimbury continues to see the highest incidence rate in the region, with about 400 cases per 100,000 population. New Tecumseth sits closer to 300 per 100,000. Barrie and Innisfil are closer to 230 per 100,000. With an 11 percent drop in local cases last week, Dr. Sohail Gandhi, past president of the Ontario Medical Association, is hopeful we have seen the worst of the third wave.
