Sting by volunteer group leads to child predator arrest in Great Bend

GREAT BEND  A Larned man was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Great Bend after a volunteer organization that creates online profiles of teens attempting to attract child predators tipped off investigators the man was traveling to the area. The organization, known as Motor City Justice, contacted the Barton County Sheriff’s Office and shared information about the individual allegedly attempting to solicit unlawful activity with a juvenile, according to a release from Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir. Deputies then put an area in the 3700 block of Eighth Street in Great Bend under surveillance and arrested Lonny R. Miller, 32, when he showed up about 5 p.m.

Officials say a drunk Great Bed driver rammed cars during a pursuit

GREAT BEND  A Great Bend man was arrested Wednesday night after about a 4-mile law enforcement pursuit that ended with the suspect’s vehicle being forced off the road in a cemetery on the north end of town. During the chase, the driver, whom investigators say was drunk, rammed at least two law enforcement vehicles and swerved at another. The incident began about 7 p.m. when a Great Bend Police officer stopped a vehicle in the 3300 block of 10th Street for driving without headlights, according to release from Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir. The officer contacted the driver and became aware the driver might be intoxicated.
