A year ago, February 2020, Barton Health moved quickly to meet the emerging global public health crisis and prepare for its anticipated arrival in our region. Long days and nights were spent planning to ensure we were prepared to care for this community as well as our team members as best as possible amid the escalating COVID-19 pandemic.

Substance abuse has repeatedly been recorded as a leading health concern in our community during Barton’s regularly-conducted Community Health Needs Assessments. Barton’s Medication for Addiction Treatment Program, offers treatment to individuals experiencing addiction to opioids and other substances.

Through the MAT Program, patients are treated using a whole-person approach to substance use recovery through medication, counseling and psychiatric services.
Under the care of our physicians and clinicians, patients and their families will be supported in their recovery regardless of where they are in the process.
For patients suffering from opioid use disorder (e.g. addiction to heroin or opioid pills), medications such as SuboxoneⓇ (buprenorphine) or naltrexone may be prescribed to assist with their recovery. STATELINE, Nev. - Even with a storm an a few inches of snow overnight, the clouds parted just in time for the unique lakeside hockey event at Edgewood Tahoe. But the sun that appeared turned out to be too much for the ice and the Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday between the Vegas Golden Knights and Colorado Avalanche will resume at 9:00 p.m. local time.
During the first period Saturday, players were falling in the center of the ice, so in the interest of Player safety, and due to poor ice conditions resulting from extreme sun, play has been suspended after one period of play. The game will resume tonight with the expectation of completing the second and third periods, and with Colorado leading Vegas 1-0. The game will be televised on NBCSN, Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

Dorothy Dean, a Barton RN working in the emergency department, noted that “Nurses have been working under enormous strain, putting their lives and safety in jeopardy, but rather than coming to an agreement that will allow us to feel some stability in our workplace, Barton executives instead bypassed safe staffing and refusing to work with the nurses.”
Barton nurses voted to join the National Nurses United/California Nurses Association in 2017. They began negotiations with Barton in March 2018 on issues concerning unsafe staffing, turnover, and health benefits. Since that time the nurses have had two strikes, once in May 2019 and the other in September of 2019.
