Villagers object to ash stockpile plans at A303 Enviropark
The Enviropark site was given emergency permission during the pandemic, with Fortis applying for it to become permanent RESIDENTS who fought against a proposed incinerator are gearing up for another battle after plans were submitted to store a “mountain” of ash near their villages. Barton Stacey and Longparish residents are objecting to plans submitted by Fortis IBA Ltd to build a 5m-high concrete storage area for incinerator bottom ash aggregate (IBAA) at the Enviropark on the A303, which is produced as a by-product of waste incinerators. It can be used as aggregate for road building, with Fortis saying the facility is needed to “provide an essential increase in material storage capacity at the Enviropark”.

The government department has withdrawn its plans to build a temporary holding facility on Ministry of Defence land near Barton Stacey, after scores of objections from politicians, residents and human rights groups. The plans were labelled akin to an open prison by Cllr Phil North, leader of Test Valley Borough Council when they were first revealed in December, with almost 3,500 people since signing a petition against it. Reacting to the news, Cllr North said: I’m relieved to have been notified by the Minister today that the Home Office has formally dropped plans for a temporary immigration centre at Barton Stacey.
