BCSO deputies rescue family stranded in vehicle

Courtesy-Sheriff Myers COLUMBUS, Ind. – Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies rescued several motorists this week, including a family with a four-year-old boy who was stranded on County Road 100N. Despite attempts by large tow trucks and four-wheel-drive vehicles to get them out, the family car was impossibly stuck in a deep snowdrift. Using a Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV), BCSO deputies were able to rescue the family and safely transport them home. “We began using UTV’s in February 2019, when a snowstorm brought motorists to a halt and prevented our usual patrol vehicles from reaching people in need,” said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matt Myers.

Bartholomew County Jail On Lockdown As Covid Cases Surge

0:31 A strike team from the Indiana Department of Health came to the jail over the weekend to test inmates and staff.  Four inmates who refused to be tested were put into quarantine. The jail is on lockdown until at least the end of February according to the news release. Inmates with fewer than 30 days left on their sentences will be released early if they are not deemed to be a threat to the public. The decision to release an inmate early rests with the prosecutor’s office, judges or the probation office.  “COVID is not an automatic release” said Bartholomew County Sheriff Matthew Myers.

Howard County Teen Named Student Leader Of The Year – WBIW

December 29, 2020 (BRAZIL) – The vision, several designs, intense fundraising, and careful construction of a K-9 project at the Indiana Sheriffs’ Youth Ranch earlier this year earned a Howard County teen the Boy Scouts of America’s top honor. Now, sheriffs who lead the Youth Ranch are naming Ezra Spencer as their “Student Leader of the Year.” “Ezra Spencer, son of Todd and Donis Spencer of Kokomo, was safely surrounded last spring by family, fellow scouts and other friends as his Eagle Scout badge was added to his already decorated BSA uniform,” said former Marion County Sheriff John Layton, ISYR board president.
