A Florida man who posed as an attorney to scam a Barnegat resident out of $10,000 last month remained wanted by police this week, authorities said.
Juan C. Piedrahita, 49, of Hollywood, Florida, was charged with theft by deception on Feb. 12 for his alleged actions which took place in January, according to a joint statement from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Barnegat Police Department.
An investigation by the agencies showed that Piedrahita, posing as an attorney, called the man and told him his nephew was involved in a crash, was arrested and that he needed $10,000 in cash to bail him out of jail, the office said.
