City of Janesville repeals pandemic-era masking policy in city buildings

JANESVILLE The local unmasking continues. The next chapter: this coming week at Janesville’s City Hall and other municipal buildings. The city of Janesville announced that the city is lifting its COVID-19-era, mask-wearing policy in city buildings or facilities effective Wednesday. The move affects most of the 518 employees at the city of Janesville, and it extends to residents who’d visit city buildings, city spokesman Nick Faust said. In an announcement released Friday, city officials said “members of the public will no longer be required to wear face masks or face coverings while visiting or conducting business in city buildings or facilities.”

Case rate in Rock County down as officials cite ongoing decline locally

Rock County is seeing an “ongoing decline” in average weekly COVID-19 cases, according to Rock County Epidemiologist Nick Zupan, as the county makes strides towards returning to normal. Last week, 145 new cases were reported in Rock County, breaking down to roughly 22 new cases per day, Zupan said. That number is down from previous weeks when the average daily number of new cases was 40 or above. “We are seeing that our number of weekly total cases is continuing to drop,” Zupan said. Hospitalizations in Rock County due to COVID-19 remain at 15 admissions, a number that is elevated slightly from past months in 2021, but far below the peak in November of 2020 when over 70 admissions for COVID-19 were reported.

Milton students may take off masks for recess

The Milton School District has decided to lighten the burden of mask wearing ever so slightly. The change affects only certain outdoor school activities. Students, staff and visitors still must wear masks indoors, according to a memo sent to parents Friday. Starting Monday, students who are outdoors for recess, playground use or physical education classes are allowed to remove their masks. The district recommends physical distancing when not wearing a mask, but distancing is not required, according to a memo from Superintendent Richard Dahman. School staff members working outdoors will be required to wear a face covering whenever they are within 6 feet of another person.

I want people to feel comfortable : As Rock Co ditches mask requirements, businesses left to decide their own rules

MILTON, Wis. – After Rock County Public Health Department announced it would be doing away with a county-wide mask mandate effective immediately Friday afternoon, businesses were left to make their own rules. RCPH says while they’re following the CDC’s guidance of allowing fully-vaccinated people to remove their masks in most public settings, there are still some situations in which masks are recommended. “There are still some requirements in place at the federal level and local level,” said Jessica Turner, a communications specialist for RCPH. “I think we’ll start to see more people that are vaccinated going without a mask, and maybe not social distancing quite as much. People will be able to be in contact with their loved ones and their friends a little more than they’ve been able to, it’s really exciting.”
