A pair of men from Silvis and Moline were arrested Monday afternoon after a shots fired incident that left a bullet hole in a car. According to the Rock Island Police Department, at about 2:28 p.m. on July 12, officers responded to the 1400 block of 13th Avenue after receiving a shots fired report.

The body of an East Moline man was found in the Mississippi River four months after he was reported missing. According to previous reports, 35-year-old Ryan Muckelston was last seen in the early morning hours of January 18, 2021.  He had left a Rock Island home on 8 1/2 Avenue and started walking home to East Moline.  Rock Island County Coroner Brian Gustafson confirmed that Ryan s body was found near Andalusia by two commercial fishermen.  They discovered his body Monday, May 17.  It was recovered at 2:07 p.m. 

Rock Island correctional officers fired; charged with aggravated battery

By Julia Bertino May 11, 2021 (Davenport, IA) Two Quad Cities correctional officers are facing charges following an altercation with an inmate at the Rock Island County Jail in January. The state’s attorney’s office says the incident between a female inmate and two female correctional officers happened on January 29th. On February 2nd, Rock Island County Sheriff Gerry Bustos ordered an internal investigation, which was completed on February 25th and returned to Sheriff Bustos. The sheriff s office says further investigation into the altercation was necessary following the internal investigation. Sheriff Bustos then requested the assistance of the city of Rock Island Police Department and the state’s attorney’s office to conduct a separate and independent criminal investigation. Detectives with the Rock Island Police Department secured all evidence, investigated the events that took place and then referred the case to the state’s attorney’s office.
