It’s a series of events now commanding the attention of Chicago, which had been anxiously awaiting the release of police body-camera video of the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo.
But a similar scenario played out nearly 30 years ago when an officer shot and killed a 12-year-old boy in Brighton Park the youngest Chicago police shooting victim in recent memory.

CHICAGO (CBS) At a bond hearing Saturday for the man who was with 13-year-old Adam Toledo when he was shot and killed by police, prosecutor said Adam had a gun in his hand when an officer shot and killed him.
Prosecutors said while defendant Ruben Roman was the one to fire the gun, Adam was holding it when he was shot and killed by police at a point when Roman was already being detained.

CHICAGO â A young man who was with a 13-year-old boy fatally shot by a Chicago police officer last month fired the rounds that drew the officer s attention, prosecutors said Saturday.
Ruben Roman, 21, is seen on video firing the weapon that brought police to the Little Village neighborhood on the night of March 29. He and 13-year-old Adam Toledo fled the scene together, with officers in pursuit, prosecutors said.
Roman was arrested as another officer chased Toledo, who was holding a gun when the officer shot him, prosecutors said. That gun matched the spent cartridge casings that were found in the area where Roman was firing, prosecutors said.
Members of the Little Village Community Council have been standing by the fence of Farragut Career Academy near the alleyway where 13-year-old Adam Toledo was killed by Chicago police.
