First, two developing stories across the area. An earlymorning fire killed a mother and her young daughter. That fire broke out this morning at the 1100 block of emerson street in arlington. We are live near the scene with the very latest. Heartbreaking story. It is, and this afternoon we have new information we can tell you. We have an active scene with a lot of fire investigators and police officers. In fact, the atf has arrived here as well. What we know is that around 5 00 this morning, neighbors heard and saw the man of the house on the street, not wearing any clothing. He and his oldest daughter were able to get out of the house. The loved ones were trapped inside the home. Once firefighters arrived, just minutes later, it was already too late. This afternoon the fire marshal briefed investigators before the meticulous and delicate operation of going through this turned up home begins. She describes that as moderate to slow, but she expects it to pick up as the evening goes on, obviously the polls close at 8 00. She doesnt expect to surge here. Here are some of the issues that people had on their minds as they showed up tonight. I think homelessness is such a big issue and im not sure who is going to be the best able to its tough. Right. Schools, i have a daughter and shell be going to school here and i would like to see something done about the over crowding in this particular school. My big issues are resources for Public Housing and low income housing. The Marijuana Initiative, and i think just ethical representation in the d. C. City council level. Okay. There are many more democrats here in maryland than there are republicans, but democrats turn out in far fewer numbers in elections where there is no president ial candidate at the top of the ticket. And so Anthony Browns campaign has been working for months to lay out a massive get out the vote effort, especially here in prince georges. Anthony brown working the crowd until the last minute. The weather is beautiful. Theres absolutely no reason not to come out and vote. In Silver Spring, one of the busiest precincts in the state, there were lines down the hall and by late morning, 163 democrats had voted and fewer than half as many republicans. Im very excited. Im mike hydeck. More election news coming up. But first, investigators looking for the cause of a house fire that killed an adult and a child, a mother and her sevenyearold daughter. Delia goncalves has more. Reporter firefighters say when they arrived the flames shooting out of the first floor of this home were so intense that they were not able to climb the ladder up to the second floor when they tried to get in the house. I was shaking, you know, because i know them. They are my neighbors. Reporter santos salvador woke to his neighbors screaming. The man was standing outside with his 12yearold daughter, their house engulfed in flames, the rest of the family trapped inside. Reporter what did he say . What did he look like when you saw the dad outside . Well, i was the first one who saw him outside. He was calling 911. Then everybody come out, and he say, my wife is inside. Thats what he said. There are reports of people trapped. They thought they could put a ladder up to the second f
