UA students rally to support sexual assault survivors

One of the event organizers, Rachel Slank, told 5NEWS she believes things are getting worse.  “People are constantly saying they are not feeling heard, she said. They don’t feel supported. They are scared to come out. And so we just kind of want to show them and everybody that you have support everywhere. Those who attended the event say they want sexual assault survivors to hear their message.  “It’s never your fault if you’re sexually assaulted or worse. You always have a support system. Don’t be afraid to speak out if you want. If you don’t, that’s okay too. Just know there are always people there to support you, Kathryn Dupree, an event organizer, said.

Oswego County Opportunities SAF Program recognizes Sexual Assault Awareness Month

FULTON — This April marks the 20th anniversary of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and this year’s “We Can Build” campaign focuses specifically on the ways people can help build safe online spaces, free of sexual violence. The National Sexual Violence Resource Center recognizes how important virtual spaces have become for connecting with co-workers, friends, family, partners and strangers alike, especially in the past year. With this increase in Zoom meetings and dating apps comes heightened awareness of the unique challenges for combatting sexual violence, as well as more opportunities than ever for online prevention and education. Oswego County Opportunities Services to Aid Families is eager to join the nationwide effort to raise awareness of sexual violence and help create a safer environment for everyone, both on and off-screen.
