The Alliance will commemorate Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April with several events designed to both empower survivors of sexual violence as well as raise awareness.
By giving tools needed to make the transition from victim to survivor, The Alliance has dedicated the last 39 years to empowering individuals beyond sexual violence.
Roughly 75 cases of sexual assault occurred in Chaffee County in 2020.
âAlthough a month isnât enough time to solve the overwhelming and serious epidemic of sexual violence, itâs certainly a good start,â Shelley Schreiner, executive director of The Alliance said.
One of the easiest ways people can help raise awareness is by wearing teal today, Day of Action. Teal is the symbol of sexual violence and the official color of Sexual Assault Awareness Month.

IONIA An organization that provides services to sexual assault survivors in Ionia and Montcalm counties is using April to raise awareness.
Relief After Violent Encounter-Ionia/Montcalm, Inc. (RAVE), 850 E. Lincoln Ave. in Ionia, provides services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM). The goal of SAAM is to spread awareness of sexual violence in the community and nation and how it affects survivors, said Jennifer Butler, executive director of RAVE.
Butler said having a month dedicated to raising awareness about sexual assault is important.
“It’s about getting everybody to be more present and mindful that this is something that happens and it occurs in our community,” Butler said.
