For those lucky enough to be unfamiliar, April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Denim Day is a solidarity campaign to memorialize the 1998 decision by the Italian Supreme Court to overturn a rape conviction using the defense that a victim’s tight jeans were synonymous with consent. And 97 represents the percentage of women aged 18 to 24 who have experienced sexual harassment in public spaces. This world is facing more than one pandemic, and one of those is sexual violence. Every 73 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. Three out of four of those go unreported. And when they are, the assailants are less likely to go to jail or prison than any other criminals.

Idaho State Rep Resigns After Ethics Committee Ruled To Censure Him Over Rape Allegations

Ehlinger testified before the ethics committee on Wednesday, Fox News reported. The committee unanimously agreed that the accusations against von Ehlinger are “unbecoming” and that the representative should not receive pay or benefits, nor return to Capitol grounds and that a substitute legislator fill his place, the Idaho Press reported. Von Ehlinger pleaded the Fifth during his testimony Wednesday at the recommendation of his legal counsel, Fox News reported. The committee said that his testimony cannot be used in criminal court cases under Idaho state law. The accuser used the name Jane Doe to protect her identity during the hearing, but some blogs and Republican Rep. Priscilla Giddings had revealed her identity in social media posts, which were removed shortly after, according to Fox News.

3 The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chicago District hosted a number of events in April 2021 to recognize Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM). This year’s Army theme was Building Cohesive Teams through Character Trust and Resilience. Protecting Our People Protects Our Mission.
