THE STANDARD NYANZA Residents of Homa Bay County pick condoms at Homa Bay Pier beach during the International Condoms Day. [James Omoro, Standard] Over 100,000 condoms have been distributed to Homa Bay County residents to prevent new HIV infections during Valentine’s Day. The condoms were distributed today in various parts of the county to mark the International Condoms Day. The condoms were distributed by the Homa Bay County Department of Health and a non-governmental organisation known as Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) to protect residents from Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancies. According to statistics the Kenya Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (Kenphia) because Homa Bay has the highest prevalence rate of HIV infection at 19.6 per cent which translates to 138,000 people who infected by the virus in the county.
