MIDDLEPORT It’s beginning to look a little more like summertime in the Village of Middleport thanks to some colorful flowers planed along the sidewalks.
Mayor Fred Hoffman explained, “This year Middleport Village will be having containers filled with flowers along the street instead of the hanging baskets which we have had in the past.”
“This was made possible by the generosity of many individuals in Middleport. The following individuals were responsible for purchasing the containers: Jim Lucus, Susan Baker, Fred and Pauline Hoffman, Shawn and Billi Arnott, Paul and Laurie Reed, Tim and Shirley Smith, Matt and Trudy Lyons, Tom and Marilyn Anderson, Farmers Bank, and Home National Bank. King Hardware and Foreman & Abbott also made a monetary donation to help with the project along with the Village of Middleport,” added Hoffman.

After a nine-day run of daily high temperatures, mostly in the mid- and upper 40s with a record of 55 degrees on Feb. 19, area residents were stunned this week to see another 11 inches of wind-whipped snow fall in less than 24 hours. Travel conditions in central and western North Dakota were difficult, but eastern North Dakota received the brunt of the storm, resulting in the closure of I-94 from Jamestown to Fargo. This winterâs snowfall now stands at 54.8 inches. The record snowfall received was 91.8 inches during the winter of 1993-94.

The DEI Commission changes campus mindset
By Cassidey Kavathas, News Editor The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion commission is a campus-wide initiative to create a more culturally conscious campus. Since 2018, the diversity task force inside of the Jandoli School of Communication has adopted this initiative. The task force includes Dr. Kimberly DeSimone as diversity advocate, Assistant Professor Heather Harris, Dr. Pauline Hoffmann, and Dr. Chris Mackowski. “The focus of the Jandoli DEI plan is instituting observable and measurable strategies and tactics to enhance and standardize diversity, equity and inclusion in ways that can be assessed and measured quantitatively to ensure we are reaching every student,’ said DeSimone.
