How do you define “professionalism” in the workplace?
That’s a conversation being had among women of color in medicine after a tweet about a Latina doctor being docked for wearing hoop earrings during a practical exam in medical school went viral.
I got docked a bunch of points on my med school OSCE for wearing hoop earrings during a test. Evaluator wrote “earrings, unprofessional.” Well I’ve been wearing hoops since I was a kid & they’re not coming off now just cuz I’m a doctor. âAbolish the Police.â Such a statement instantly stirs fear in many of a dystopian world of anarchy and violence and lawlessness. Many wonder who will pick up the phone when they dial 911 in the case of an emergency.
However, I argue that it doesnât need to. Donât get me wrong, I understand the deep aversion to the idea of police abolition, and I have shared these same sentiments regarding it. But I decided to learn more about what police abolition really means, and uncover the substance beneath the slogan.
There are a variety of perspectives regarding what police abolition actually is, but here I would like to talk about my vision of what it would look like.
Claremont Colleges, which along with Pitzer includes four other undergraduate colleges and two graduate schools, announced Thursday that the first acceptance letters for the Inside-Out Pathway-to-BA program had been sent.
