Safety, fun to meet at PCCA day

CHATHAM, Va. — Pittsylvania County Community Action (PCCA) is gearing up for its annual Community Action Awareness Day. We re excited about our annual community access day, said Executive Director Everlena Ross. We want this to be one of the biggest things to happen in Danville-Pittsylvania since COVID hit. The event will be held at the Old Dutch Market parking lot on South Main Street lot this Friday, May 21 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The event takes place every May during National Community Action Month, but this year, organizers say the impact will be greater than usual. The event represents a desire to open up and touch base with people who have been isolated for so long, said Annette Turner, event chair. Chatham Rotary Club to host hometown celebration, fireworks

CHATHAM, Va. — The Chatham Rotary Club is planning a Hometown Celebration in and around Chatham for the 4th of July weekend. This new weekend of festivities will be highlighted by Friday evening fireworks on July 2 and a flag-filled Field of Honor at the Old Dominion Agricultural Complex to honor local hometown heroes, from military veterans to first responders, as well as beloved family members. The opening ceremony for the Field of Honor will be on Saturday, July 3, and the display will run from July 3 to July 24. Bridge in Blairs to memorialize William Pritchett, Pittsylvania County s first Black supervisor

BLAIRS, Va. — The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors Tuesday night voted unanimously to approve a resolution in support of renaming the U.S. Highway 29 Business North bridge in Blairs the William H. Pritchett Memorial Bridge in honor of the first Black supervisor in Pittsylvania County s history. For supervisor Dr. Charles H. Miller (Banister), the only Black supervisor on today s board, the designation is a win for the community also rife with personal sentiment.
