Bangladesh s migrant workers fly to Singapore after days in lockdown

Two more special flights will leave for Dammam and Jeddah carrying migrant workers, with another cargo flight leaving Dhaka for Hong Kong on Tuesday evening. With a surge in coronavirus cases across the country, the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh banned all international flights until Apr 28.   The flights carrying the migrant workers to Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Qatar and Oman, however,  will be operating as usual.

  Staff Correspondent,  bdnews24.com Shahjalal International Airport The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has decided to start domestic flight services on a limited scale in a bid to ease the plight of migrants workers during the nationwide lockdown to tackle the coronavirus pandemic. ); } Passenger flights will be operated on all domestic routes, except Cox s Bazar from Apr 21, CAAB Chairman M Mofidul Rahman said. Many migrant workers come to Shahjalal International Airport from outside Dhaka to go abroad or travel to other parts of the country and the decision was taken mainly with them in mind, said Mofidul. However, others will also be able to travel on these flights.

Four special flights for migrant workers left Dhaka today

Four out of 12 special flights, scheduled for today, left the Dhaka airport as of 3:00pm today. Of the four flights, Biman Bangladesh Airlines operated two one each on Dhaka-Dammam and Dhaka-Riyadh routes, Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, director, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, told The Daily Star.
