Seven of 12 special flights depart

Seven out of 12 scheduled special flights left the Dhaka airport as of 9:00pm yesterday.
Of the seven flights, Biman Bangladesh Airlines operated two flights, one each on Dammam and Riyadh route; Oman Air operated one flight to Muscat; US-Bangla Airlines operated three flights, one each to Doha, Dubai, and Muscat; and Emirates operated one flight to Dubai, Group Captain AHM Touhid-ul Ahsan, director, Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA), told The Daily Star.
Amid the nationwide lockdown that has been imposed to prevent the spread of coronavirus, around 1,600 expatriate workers remained stuck and could not return to their workplaces in Saudi Arabia, Muscat, Dubai, and Doha on these flights, sources at the HSIA said.
Airlines get landing permission; 476 fly for KSA, Oman
Middle-East bound special flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines faced disruption in flight schedules on Saturday failing to get landing permission in Dammam and Riyadh.
But, flight operations became normal on Sunday after Saudi Arabia gave landing permission in the two destinations.
Some 476 expatriate workers flew for Saudi Arabia and Oman today. Of them, 271 left by Biman and 205 by Air Arabia.
A source said a Riyadh-bound special flight took off from Shahjalal International Airport at 10:30am while two more for Muscat and Dubai.
Over 1,500 passengers are scheduled to leave for different countries by nine more flights till 12 midnight, the source said.

“Twelve special flights from different airlines will depart throughout the day,” Airport Director Touheed Ul Ahsan said. It was the second scheduled day for the flights.
“Three flights, one each from Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Oman Air and Emirates, have departed this morning.”
Biman Bangladesh Airlines spokesperson Tahera Khandaker said four flights of the state-owned airline would head out from Dhaka on Sunday to Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam and Dubai.

Of the seven, Biman Bangladesh Airlines cancelled five Saudi Arabia bound flights, while Fly Dubai cancelled two, citing various reasons, said AHM Towhid Ul Ahsan, director of Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka. Only SalamAir operated a flight to Muscat since this morning. Our national carrier is expected to operate another flight to Jeddah in the afternoon.
Biman cancelled a Riyadh-bound flight over the delay to get landing permission from Saudi authorities. Two Dubai-bound flights and a Dammam-bound flight were cancelled due to a shortage of passengers, said the airline s spokesperson Tahera Khandaker.
