Pueblo County moves back to Yellow on the COVID dial PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) As of 6 a.m. Wednesday, Pueblo County has reverted back to Level Yellow on the Colorado COVID-19 Dial, meaning stricter COVID guidelines for the foreseeable future. Pueblo County s one-week cumulative number sits at 167.2 according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. According to Pueblo County Health Director Randy Evetts, there has been a sharp increase in Pueblo County’s COVID-19 case rates in recent weeks. Evetts says the county needs to be below 100 to stay in level Blue on the COVID dial. The increase in cases comes as Pueblo County now has five different confirmed variants of the COVID-19 virus in the community, said the Pueblo Health Department in a press release. Public health is investigating almost 200 cases linked to a variant.

Starting Monday, the clinic would move to the Colorado State Fairgrounds as Centura Health and COVID Check Colorado would take over vaccination operations. This is an incredible development for Pueblo, said Pueblo County Health Director Randy Evetts. It will expand the amount of vaccines that can be given in a day. Currently at the Pueblo Mall clinic, Pueblo Health officials administer around 1,500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine every day. With the state taking over the operation, Evetts says they ll eventually be able to provide around 6,000 doses.

(KRDO) A portable storage unit malfunction forced health officials in Pueblo County to toss out hundreds of doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. According to the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE), 300 doses of the COVID-19 Pfizer vaccine have been rendered unusable. On January 4th, the vaccines were being transported from the Pueblo County Health Department to a Pueblo Fire Station to vaccinate first responders. The Pfizer vaccine has to be stored at a temperature of -94 degrees. However, vaccines must be thawed-out before usage. At that point, they must remain within 36-46 degrees Fahrenheit.
