Judge dismisses Esquibel s civil case claiming he should be exempt from law

Pueblo man convicted of illegal possession files appeal

The order allows Esquibel to be with his family at Christmas and New Year s Day.  Esquibel was arrested Aug. 9 last year by FBI agents and Pueblo police part of the Safe Streets Task Force when they raided his home with a search warrant and found guns and ammunition. It was illegal for him to have a gun because he had been convicted in 2006 in Pueblo District Court of aggravated robbery of a Dairy Queen. In his appeal and in his complaint against his prosecutors, Esquibel is representing himself without an attorney, as he had done at his trial last fall.

Pueblo man sentenced to 34 months in prison for 2018 gun crime

DENVER A Pueblo man who was sentenced Thursday to 34 months in federal prison said his history of crime has to do with (his) drug addiction and alcohol abuse. Kenneth Lawrence Baca was sentenced in Denver at the U.S. District Court for Colorado for having a gun after being convicted of a felony. Court records show he had at least three felony convictions in Pueblo District Court in 2000, 2005 and 2009. The crimes were second-degree assault with a deadly weapon, criminal mischief and identify theft. Police caught Baca, 41, in 2018 with a loaded .38 caliber handgun in a car parked in the 1100 block of South Prairie Avenue. That was the basis of the case for Thursday s sentencing by Judge William J. Martinez.
