MOSSVILLE – Rough terrain and rough weather impeded firefighters who tried to extinguish a blaze that resulted from a house explosion Tuesday near Mossville.
A 21-year-old man was hospitalized with burn injuries as a result of the explosion about 2 p.m. at 13723 N. Ivy Lake Road. According to authorities, the injured man is an employee of a heating, ventilation and air-conditioning firm that was installing a furnace at the residence.
The house was destroyed, according to Marvin Roderick, chief of the Chillicothe Community Fire Protection District. We got there pretty quick and it was fully involved (in flames) top to bottom, Roderick said Wednesday morning. There s nothing left.

CHILLICOTHE, Ill. A blast in the basement of a home has sent a man to the hospital with severe burns.
The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office responded shortly after 2:00 Tuesday afternoon to the 13000 block of N. Ivy Lake Rd. in Chillicothe on reports of a natural gas explosion. The caller reported the home’s basement was on fire.

One of the two workers, a 21-year-old male, sustained injuries bad enough to earn a transport to OSF Medical Center. The other worker was outside at the time and was unharmed.
MOSSVILLE – A car-sized hole in the front of his church wasn t exactly what the Rev. Jeremy Peters was expecting a few days before Christmas.
Still, Peters found silver linings Tuesday morning after someone drove a vehicle through a frame wall and into Crossroads Baptist Church in Mossville. Praise the Lord, nobody was inside the building, Peters said. As inconvenient as it is, I m happy they hit the building. Any number of these homes (nearby) would have hit a bedroom or had a substantial loss of life.
About 3:45 a.m., the Peoria County Sheriff s Office was notified about the incident. Peters said a neighbor who was preparing to go to work witnessed it.
WEST PEORIA – Some people would do anything for love, or for like, or for a friendship.
But early Wednesday morning in West Peoria, one man decided he wouldn t take the rap for the theft of $42.65 worth of beer.
The alleged theft took place about 12:30 a.m. at Casey s General Store, 2114 W. Farmington Road.
According to the Peoria County Sheriff s Office, a man and a woman entered the store and perused the beer section. The woman brought to the counter two cases of Budweiser, 24 cans or bottles in each.
The clerk scanned one of the cases, she told a sheriff s deputy. But then, the woman grabbed that case and the other and left the store.
