The Peoria City/County Health Department provided more information on its vaccination distribution plan Thursday as Illinois surpassed one million COVID-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic. The Illinois Department of Public Health released its version 4.0 of its vaccination plan that further clarifies group 1A and helps with planning towards vaccinating group 1B, according to Public Health Administrator Monica Hendrickson. Entities whose staff and residents who qualify for tier 1A include hospitals, medical outpatient, public health clinics, local health departments’ point of dispensing, federal qualified health centers and long-term care facilities, said Hendrickson.

Overall, 319 new cases of COVID-19 were announced Friday across the tri-county. 164 of those were in Peoria, 124 in Tazewell and 31 new cases came up in Woodford. On a good note, there were 22 fewer people in area hospitals with the virus Friday compared to the day prior. One additional person is in the ICU for COVID-19, but there was a 23 patient decrease for COVID-19 in non-ICU beds.

Local COVID roundup 1/7: Peoria County woman passes

Midwest Communications PEORIA, Ill. A Peoria County woman is the latest reported area COVID-19 casualty. The female in her 60s did not live in long-term care and did have underlying health issues, according to the Peoria City/County Health Department. Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties combined between Wednesday and Thursday for 338 new cases. Peoria had 172, Tazewell reported 124, and Woodford increased its totals by 42. 112 people as of Thursday afternoon were in hospital beds because of the virus. 27 of them were in intensive care. Region Two remained on track to be moved from tier three to tier two mitigation, as med/surg and ICU bed capacities remained above 20%, rolling seven-day positivity rate remained below 12%, and the amount of regional patients in hospitals continued going down.
