Biden confirms $23 billion arms sales to UAE despite concerns fro

A State Department spokesperson revealed to Reuters that the administration will sell weapons - including armed drones and advanced F-35 aircraft - to the UAE even as we continue reviewing details and consulting with Emirati officials on where and how the weapons will be used. The sales will include weaponry from several leading arms manufacturers, including Lockheed Martin Corp, General Atomics and Raytheon Technologies Corp. In the $23.37 billion sale, there will be 50 F-35 Lightning II aircraft, 18 MQ-9B Unmanned Aerial Systems and air-to-air and air-to-ground munitions. The deal between Washington and Abu Dhabi was brokered by the Trump administration as part of the so-called Abraham Accords - under former US President Donald Trump - which saw Israel and the UAE normalise relations.

Douglas Ross accused of tank rider stunt at arms firm

Scots Tory leader Douglas Ross has been condemned by critics of the arms trade for a “two-bit tank rider” stunt with a French arms firm in Glasgow which deals with Saudi Arabia and Russia. Ross recently visited the Thales Optronics factory in Glasgow as part of the Tories’ election campaign. He was pictured standing masked on top of a Hawkei armoured vehicle, reminiscent of former Tory leader Ruth Davidson who once sat astride a tank, to show support for the military. Thales – the 14th largest arms firm in the world – employs over 700 people across two main sites in Glasgow and Rosyth. A spokesman for Ross said his visit to the Glasgow site was to support apprentices working for Thales.

She celebrated in an intimate way, surrounded by a few family members and friends. The designer took advantage of this important day to continue her role as an activist with the showing of a 10-minute film “Don’t Buy a Bomb,” which was projected from the brightest and most iconic screens of the British capital, and broadcast simultaneously online.
