Gov Hogan announces $7 million in emergency relief awards for Main Street communities statewide

47abc February 23, 2021 ANNAPOLIS, Md. – On Tuesday, Governor Larry Hogan announced $7 million in awards for 41 Main Street programs across the state of Maryland. The funding will support small businesses and other economic recovery efforts in the state and Baltimore City designated Main Street communities. More than 5,000 businesses will be eligible for support from their local Main Street Program. These awards mark the third phase of the Maryland Strong: Economic Recovery Initiative administered by the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development. Several Eastern Shore towns and cities are included in these awards: Berlin – Town of Berlin: $194,113 Cambridge – Cambridge Main Street, Inc.: $139,762

Small business community says state COVID-19 aid is welcome, but more will be needed February 15, 2021 MARYLAND – With the stroke of Maryland Governor Larry Hogan’s pen, small business owners now have more COVID-19 financial relief on the way. Main Street Princess Anne Manger Carrie Samis says this is welcome news for a community that relies heavily on small business. “They are still wrestling with the challenges of COVID and making sure that they keep themselves, their customers, and their staff safe,” said Samis. Governor Hogan signed the state’s RELIEF Act Monday, giving small business owners sales tax credits, adjusted unemployment tax rates, and loan and grant forgiveness. The local business community says those benefits are much needed. “I think it’s a triple header of the advantages for businesses. They’ve been asking for this tax incentive program for literally months after this pandemic began,” said CEO of the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce Bill Cham

Main Street Princess Anne gets national accreditation

47abc January 15, 2021 PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The Main Street Princess Anne organization is now nationally recognized. It was designated as a 2020 accredited Main Street America program. “We worked really closely with the town of Princess Anne, with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, with the Somerset County government. We also worked with local business owners,” said Main Street Princess Anne Manager Carrie Samis. Samis says this is exciting news, as it will provide extra support for local businesses. “We have access to that network of organizations and individuals who really help to guide us and give us connections – folks we can reach out to when we’re looking for advice,” said Samis.
