They are among the most famous guitars in rock history.
Eddie Van Halen’s legendary “Frankenstrat” guitars, known by their black, white and red striping painted by Van Halen himself are pillars of the genre’s iconography. They are associated with some of the most blazing, face-melting riffs and solos ever spun by human hands.
Now, one of the famed instruments is up for auction and expected to sell for between $600,000 and $800,000, according to Gotta Have Rock and Roll, the Franklin Lakes-based auction house handling the sale.
