Rescue efforts stalled as first responders wait for waters to recede Sheriff Jeff Bullard says 25-year old Shelby Mitchell s vehicle is believed to be submerged under floodwaters.  Dive teams are unable to enter the water due to continuing dangerous conditions. Bullard tell News 3 Mitchell s family is near the scene along with divers from Franklin County Emergency Management Agency. Woodlawn Fire department was first on the call, followed by MABAS 68 Sonar Team and the Benton Fire Dive team. Using GPS, Mitchell s approximate location was determined, but dive teams are still on hold until conditions improve. Friends and family tell News 3 the community is coming together for a prayer vigil tonight at the Woodlawn Grade School, where Mitchell a Woodlawn graduate was working towards a career in education.  That started at 7 p.m.

After more than a year of COVID, government meetings will be in person soon

Local governments are taking notice. Frankfort Mayor Layne Wilkerson and Franklin County Judge-Executive Huston Wells discussed meeting logistics during Monday’s COVID update by local officials. Wilkerson said the city commission is looking at holding its meetings in person again, possibly beginning with a work session scheduled for June 14. “I don’t know if we’ll open it up for everyone yet, but at least make it available for citizens’ comments, for people to come and speak directly to the board,” he said. “I don’t know yet if we’ll open it all the way up to the public, but at least we’re all going to be in the same room again.”
