A registered sex offender who attempted to break his cellphone as a law enforcement agent confronted him with a search warrant for it pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Columbus.
Christopher E. Bouffard, 48, of the West Side, admitted to felony counts of possession of child pornography and destruction of evidence. He faces up to 20 years in prison on each charge, though a plea agreement recommends a term of 121-135 months.
U.S. District Judge Edmund A. Sargus Jr. will determine a final sentence at a later date.
Bouffard was designated as a sexual predator following convictions for multiple child sex charges in Michigan in 2006. He came to local investigators attention in September 2019 on a tip submitted to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children by a cloud storage provider who noted the upload of several hundred child pornography files to his cellphone, according to court documents.
