COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Officials in Ohio’s largest city said Thursday that they plan to invest $4.5 million in body-worn cameras for police and introduce a law that would ensure officers use the cameras correctly after the fatal shooting of Andre Hill last month by a white officer.
“While many of us woke up this morning with a renewed sense of purpose and optimism, a new year and a new president does not erase the past or the pain felt by those who loved Casey Goodson Jr. or Andre Hill,” Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther said in a briefing Thursday.

Public Defenders question deputy s decision to attend Trump rally on his personal trip

FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) â (LEX 18) - A Versailles man who attended Wednesday s rally of support for President Donald Trump is now under fire from some public defenders who question the Franklin County Sheriff s deputy s decision to attend the event on his personal time.
Five public defenders at the Franklin County Trial Office sent LEX 18 an email addressed to Franklin County Sheriff Chris Quire. In it, they wrote, it was necessary to stand up and voice our serious concerns over the conduct of one of your deputies. They pointed out the January 6th event, of which they wrote, resulted in the storming of our nation s Capitol Building and multiple fatalities.
Disturbance at Strong Elementary School leads to lockdown, arrest

STRONG The Strong Elementary School went into full lockdown for one hour Thursday morning after a disturbance resulted in the arrest of a local man.

“As the result of an agitated individual at Strong Elementary School this morning and out of extreme caution for students and staff, lockdown protocols were implemented,” Todd Sanders, superintendent of School Administrative District 58, wrote in an email.
An investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Christian Richards, 27, of Strong arrived at the school, became agitated with officials, who dialed 911. The school was locked down, according to Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr.

OZARK, Ark. The Fort Smith Bomb Squad is at JLW Towing & Recovery in Ozark to check on what deputies say could be two homemade explosives in the back of a truck.
The bomb squad has secured the devices and the scene is now being cleared. Investigators will now look into exactly what the devices are - which is still believed to be some sort of explosives.
