100-year-old Ferna Girardin of Wilton gets her COVID-19 vaccine from her primary care provider Deborah Burchfield, APRN-FNP, who was giving shots in arms at the Franklin Memorial Hospital COVID vaccine clinic on Friday.

FARMINGTON Three members of the Girardin family, matriarch Ferna and daughters Dawn and Lea, received the Moderna COVID vaccine Friday afternoon at Franklin Memorial Hospital, doing their part in the fight against the virus.
Born not long after the flu pandemic of 1918 was ending and living most of her years in Wilton, Ferna Girardin has seen a lot in her lifetime. At 100-years-old she’s lived through World War II, seen the first man in space, witnessed the 9/11 attacks, and has worked as an insurance agent and buyer for International Paper, among others. “I enjoyed every place I worked,” she said.
FARMINGTON – A veteran Franklin County sheriff’s detective is set to become the Farmington police chief.
Kenneth Charles of Farmington, who will be confirmed Tuesday as the new Farmington police chief, holds the 2019 Annual Community Champion Children Award given by the Children’s Advocacy Center for Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties.

Kenneth “Ken” Charles, 50, of Farmington was the unanimous choice of the search committee, Town Manager Richard Davis said in an email Monday.
Charles will replace Chief Jack Peck Jr. of Wilton who retired after 31 years with the department, 10 of those as chief, in November 2020 to become assistant director of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Vassalboro.

Daulton Wickenden, a personal insurance account executive at
Allen Insurance and Financial in Camden, graduated from the Safeco Producer Development program.
The University of Maine at Augusta announced that its mental health and human services bachelor’s degree program received national accreditation from the Council for Standards in Human Services Education. The five-year accreditation is the culmination of a three-year process, including a self-study and written report by the faculty of the academic program and a virtual site visit by the council’s site review team.
