Dan Ronning was appointed to the Pequot Lakes City Council on Tuesday, Jan. 5, by unanimous vote and without discussion.
He will fill the late Jerry Akerson’s term through 2022. Akerson died in October. Ronning most recently served as chair of the Park Commission.
Others who applied for the two-year seat were Jason Baca, who lost election bids in 2016 and 2020 for a council seat; Brad Becklin, an Economic Development Commission member; Debbi Graham; Kent Johnson, who sought a council seat in the November election; and James Tayloe, who served the past two years as mayor before losing a bid for a second term in November.

Amy Sjoblad is the newest member of the Pequot Lakes School Board.
Sjoblad was the top vote-getter in a field of eight candidates, amassing 2,990 votes in her name (17.33%). I am very honored and humbled to have the opportunity to represent Pequot Lakes Schools, Sjoblad said. I m am honored to have that community support - there were a lot of great candidates. I m just excited about the opportunity to make sure that all students of all levels have opportunity. I have experience in workforce development and now in education with career advising, so I m just really excited to put that expertise to good use, she said.
