FLINT TWP., MI The black bear killed in traffic on Interstate 75 near Flint has officials at the Michigan Department of Natural Resources scratching their heads.
Sure, there are at least 15,000 bears and cubs in the state, but roughly 90 percent live in the Upper Peninsula, while the remaining 10 percent are mainly found in the northern Lower Peninsula.
“Generally they are not seen south of Clare County, (but) we do occasionally get young male bears looking for food or mating,” Holly Vaughn, public outreach and engagement manager for the DNR, told MLive-The Flint Journal.
