Work underway to ensure Leitrim homes and businesses are connected to high speed broadband Reporter:   ); Work is underway to ensure Leitrim homes and businesses will be connected under the Government’s plan for high speed broadband, Fine Gael TD, Frank Feighan, has said. Minister for State at the Department of Health and local Fine Gael TD Frank Feighan said: “Homes and businesses in Leitrim will be connected to high speed broadband under the Government’s National Broadband Plan, for which survey work is underway despite the challenges of the pandemic. “The Broadband Connection Points (BCPs) initiative will see publicly accessible sites in rural and isolated parts of County Leitrim provided with a temporary high-speed broadband connection by National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company contracted to deliver the NBP. Many points have been connected already.

Two new broaband connections points for Leitrim Reporter: );   ); By March this year Leitrim  will have two new Broadband Connection Points as part of the National Broadband Plan rolling out fibre internet. Aughawillan National School and St Michael s NS Glenfarne will be equipped with the high speed broadband by the end of the first quarter of this year. School BCPs will be provided with high speed broadband for educational use and more than 70 schools will have been connected by the end of January through ‘service provider contracts managed by the Department of Education. An acceleration of the schools aspect of the project was announced late last year and will see some 679 primary schools connected to high speed broadband by 2022, well ahead of the original target delivery timeframe of 2026.

Surveying for broadband taking place across Kildare Reporter:   ); National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company rolling out the new high-speed fibre broadband network under the Government’s National Broadband Plan (NBP) today announced that surveying works in several areas of Kildare are well underway. Surveying NBI contractors have been on the ground across the country for eight months and over 158,000 premises nationwide have been surveyed to date. This involves physically walking the routes and documenting images, notes and measurements of the poles, cables and underground ducts in each area. This will enable network design solutions for the provision of a fibre network to every premises in the Intervention Area – a map of over 544,000 premises nationwide identified by the Department of the Environment, Climate and Communication (DECC) - as not being served with adequate broadband speeds.
