NEW DELHI: The finance ministry on Wednesday said banks and financial institutions have sanctioned Rs 14.96 lakh crore to over 28.68 crore beneficiaries in the last six years.
Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 8, 2015 to promote entrepreneurship.
Ministry of finance is committed to provide financial inclusiveness and support to the marginalized and hitherto socio-economically neglected classes. Financial needs of all stakeholders ranging from the budding entrepreneurs to the hard-working farmers has also been catered to through various initiatives. A key initiative towards this is Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY), which has given wings to the dreams and aspirations of millions, along with a feeling of self-worth and independence, finance ministry said in a statement.

Under the scheme, collateral-free loans up to ₹10 lakh provided for income-generating activities in manufacturing, trading, and agriculture.
In the six years since its launch, the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) has seen 28.68 crore loans to the tune of ₹14.96 lakh crore sanctioned to various beneficiaries. This scheme provides collateral-free loans of up to ₹10 lakh for income-generating activities in manufacturing, trading, services sectors and for activities allied to agriculture.
Mudra loans are provided to non-corporate and non-farm small/micro-enterprises. These loans are extended by banks, Regional Rural Banks, microfinance institutions and non-banking finance companies. They are offered in three categories, namely, ‘Shishu’, ‘Kishore’ and ‘Tarun’, which signifies the stage of growth or development and funding needs of the borrowers.
