Vaccination Drive: Countdown begins - Star of Mysore

20,500 Covishield vials arrive in city on Jan. 13 night Mysore/Mysuru: India is all set to write a new script in the history with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching a nationwide vaccination drive online tomorrow for the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic which snuffed out lakhs of lives besides ruining the economy of all countries in the last 10 months. The whole world is watching developments in India in the last one week after Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved two vaccines (Covishield and Covaxin) for emergency administration much to the relief of crores of Indians. Vaccine vials have reached all districts and country’s population is waiting with bated breath for the vaccine drive from tomorrow. Covishield vaccine vials are safely stored inside District Vaccine Stores from where it would be taken out tomorrow for vaccinating healthcare workers in the first round.

A special aircraft from Pune will carry nine lakh vials of Covishield into the State today, vaccination drive begins from Monday Karnataka is set to receive its first consignment of Covishield, the vaccine against the novel coronavirus, today. Vaccination will begin from Monday, Jan 11 at select centres. Nine lakh vials of Covishield, produced by the Serum Institute of India and developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca, will be sent to the State Vaccination Centres in Bengaluru and Kalaburagi and to Regional Vaccination Stores in Shivamogga, Belagavi and Ballari. Karnataka has facilities to store close to 9.4 lakh vials. From State Vaccination Stores and Regional Vaccination Stores, the vaccination will be further distributed to District, Taluk and booth level centres by road with mobile walk-in freezers.
