Funds needed for local safe haven baby box Wednesday, March 10, 2021 4:00 AM Throughout Indiana, abandoned babies have been found on residential streets, open fields and even in trash cans. This doesn’t have to happen. Franciscan Health Foundation is currently raising funds to install a Safe Haven Baby Box at Franciscan Health Crawfordsville. Indiana’s Safe Haven Law allows a woman to legally and safely relinquish an unharmed newborn baby at a Safe Haven location. Historically, Safe Haven sites have been locations like fire and police stations. However, a baby box at a hospital gives women another, less intimidating, option if they fear being recognized, questioned or even arrested.

LAFAYETTE – The president of IU Health Arnett and the West Central Region is retiring, the hospital announced in a release Friday. Daniel Neufelder, who joined IU Health in May 2018, is planning to retire in September 2021. For the past 31 years, Neufelder has served as either the chief executive officer or the senior vice president for a variety of healthcare systems, including Ministry Health Care, Memorial Health System in South Bend, Community Health Network and St. Vincent Health System in Indianapolis.
