Boracay releases Olive ridley turtle back to the wild

Published May 19, 2021, 11:51 AM ILOILO CITY – An Olive ridley turtle has been released back to the wild from the shores of world-famous Boracay Island in Malay town, Aklan province. “The best way to conserve and protect our wildlife species, especially the sea turtles is to let them live in their natural habitat. Boracay Island is indeed a turtle haven prior to the recorded nesting and hatchlings release from the past years until now,” said Francisco Milla Jr., Western Visayas regional director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-6). It was DENR-Boracay’s Protected Area Management and Biodiversity Conservation (PAMBCU) and Coastal Unit that facilitated the release of the turtle that weighed less than three kilos.

DENR inks 2 eco-park project agreements in Iloilo City

The design of the three-hectare park in Jaro, Iloilo City that is being built. (Iloilo City PIO / MANILA BULLETIN) DENR Region 6 Regional Director Francisco Milla Jr. inked two separate Memoranda of Agreements (MOAs) with Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas for the creations of two eco-parks here. “Iloilo City is indeed a vibrant and liveable city. It is not just rich in culture, but also with its coastal and marine resources,” said Milla. Among the two eco-parks is the 35-hectare forestland area in Barangay Hinactacan in La Paz district. Dubbed as “Eco Park 2,” the project will showcase the natural mangrove forests in this city as a social laboratory for marine and other wildlife management researches.
