At nation/state level South Africa faces no major current and medium term threat. This is an indicator of why those in charge of the national purse are and will prioritise government spend on social issues with defence and security the poor cousins.
This approach is one not well-liked by Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and those in senior positions at the Department of Defence (DoD) and its major responsibility â the SA National Defence Force (SANDF).
What mustnât be forgotten in this scenario is that over 60% of the just on R50 billion allocated for the defence budget by National Treasury goes to pay people in uniform and civilians employed at DoD and the national defence force.

CAPE TOWN - Parliament’s Powers and Privileges committee has found 16 Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Members of Parliament (MPs) guilty of contempt of Parliament.
The 16 red berets were charged after storming Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan at the podium when he was delivering his Budget vote in July 2019.

CAPE TOWN - Parliament has found 16 EFF MPs guilty of misconduct for disrupting Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan last year.
On Friday, the powers and privileges committee investigating the incident heard closing arguments from the initiator, Advocate Ncumisa Mayosi.
She said that there was strong evidence against the MPs.
The guilty verdict against the EFF MPs comes after video and oral evidence was presented to the committee last month.

CAPE TOWN - Parliament will decide only next year on how to punish Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MPs found guilty of accosting and disrupting Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan.
The initiator of the hearing, Advocate Ncumisa Mayosi, told the committee that there was overwhelming evidence against the EFF MPs before she found them guilty for breaking parliamentary rules and the Powers and Privileges Act.
