London Joe Farley was the longtime business owner of Farley Cleaners and Laundry, a staple in Tulsa and the Greenwood District for decades.But before being hailed as north Tulsa s Greatest Businessman, the community he called home was destroyed.Farley s granddaughter, Brittani Hunter, told KOCO 5 that he was 3 years old when the Tulsa Race Massacre occurred. He said his family managed to get out before it happened.They came back a few days later to devastation, smoke, smoldering buildings and dead bodies on the ground. They had those images in their head for years, and I really think it lit a fire in them, Hunter said.That fire turned into action once Farley was an adult. Teachers and parents are speaking out on both sides of the debate over facemasks in Laurel Schools.
Some expressed concern that the board made a change from mandatory masks for COVID-19.
But the board says masks have always been optional.
The union argued that the board previously agreed to masks under state guidelines, but the chair and the superintendent say those guidelines changed with Gov. Greg Gianforte, R-Mont. The reason that we re here tonight, the crux of the issue is really that between the (Memorandum Of Agreement), our board policy and our reopening plan, said Linda Filpula.
