Turkeys are causing trouble in Charlevoix, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
The local turkey population has exploded this year, resulting in downtown-area residents getting incessantly chased or even jumped upon by the large fowl, said Charlevoix s Police Chief Gerard Doan.
The DNR is actively seeking a resolution to the city s turkey population concern. They have advised that residents do not feed the turkeys and suggested removing bird feeders for the time being. Turkeys are pattern oriented and territorial during their breeding season and will continue to return if they have a reliable food source, according to the DNR.
