Thirty years ago, Israel carried out a momentous operation to bring Jews from Ethiopia to Israel.
In an unprecedented act, more.
Once might be a mistake. Twice is not. A well-meaning person would be horrified by stirring an antisemitism scandal and work hard not to repeat it. Yet we appear to be witnessing round two.
Reflecting on the new song’s title,
Stereogum’s March preview noted it “sure seems to be an antisemitic trope” before very generously allowing “maybe it’s satire.” With lines like “They own the media. They control the stories we are told. Ya ever try to go against them, you will be ignored,” and “Leave it all and you’ll never get, never get wise to the truth, ’cause they control everything you do,” it seems fair to say this is not a satirical song.
In 1979, the Simon Wiesenthal Center organized a Mission to Germany starting with a ceremony with Simon Wiesenthal at.
However, far more interesting than the content of such views are the circumstances in which an individual with extraordinary creative talent, like Morrison, comes to embrace them. In recent years, the issue of antisemitism has intersected with the world of music through the BDS campaign that seeks to isolate Israel. Many well-known musicians, like the producer Brian Eno and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters, have embraced the BDS cause and the antisemitic tropes that it incorporates; while other rock musicians of similar repute, like Nick Cave, deserve a mention for being just as vehement in opposing the effort to socially distance the Jewish state on the international stage.

Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison debuted a new song on Thursday titled “They Own the Media,” evoking an age-old antisemitic trope and outraging many fans and critics.
In the track, the 75-year-old rock and folk legend does not reveal who the pronoun refers to, but sings, “They control the narrative / they perpetuate the myth / Keep on telling you lies / telling you ignorance is bliss.” An official audio-only video for “They Own the Media” was posted on YouTube on Thursday, and had over 12,000 views by the following day.

You know how when you re at a concert waiting for your favorite band to come out, they play music over the sound system while the roadies race around setting up the stage? I ve never seen or heard this happen before.
A crowd of 100,000 waiting for Green Day to come out as headliners at the British Summer Time Festival in Hyde Park, London July 1, 2017 heard the opening notes of Queen s, Bohemian Rhapsody. Everybody knows this song! Everybody loves this song! And everybody in the crowd sang it from start to finish.
This is so awesome! Green Day was recording video that night and released it. You can even see the crowd pogoing to it. This makes me miss concerts so much more. Check it out.
