New data released by insurance broker Willis shows that premiums have continued to fall this year. “The balance of power in airline insurance purchasing remains firmly in favor of the buyers,” concludes the London-based group in the second-quarter edition of its Airline Insight report released on July 15.

British residents flying home to Spain were prevented from boarding a joint British Airways/Iberia flight to Madrid on Saturday night after airline staff said their pre-Brexit residency papers were no longer valid.
A total of nine people were not allowed to board at Heathrow Airport, among them journalist and photographer Max Duncan, who was told that his green residency paper was no longer valid, even though the Spanish and British governments have said both the old Foreign National Identification (NIE) document and the new Foreign ID Card (TIE) remain valid.

The British Embassy in Madrid called on Spanish authorities to show flexibility following the passengers distressing experiences. Some were allegedly refused permission to board a flight from London to Madrid, while others were reportedly put back on the plane after arriving in Barcelona.

One in three households lost income (and two-thirds of the self-employed)
Analysis by the Bank of England found that 28% of households have seen incomes fall during the pandemic, rising to 66% among the self-employed. Spending has fallen even further, even for those in work. The Bank estimated that 57% of households cut their spending in the early months of the crisis.
