Bridport Refugee Support Campaign will be holding a stall in Bucky Doo Square on Saturday, May 29. The stall will offer a range of items, each donated by supporters of the campaign, including a range of china, jewellery, handbags, photo frames, DVDs and more. The campaign s committee will be on hand to give more information about the campaign and to answer any questions members of the public may have. There will also be the opportunity to join the campaign s growing band of supporters by signing up at the stall. The stall will be in Bucky Doo from 9am until 1pm. AN EVENT is set to go ahead live and in-person in June to support a local cause featuring a historian and a journalist. Bridport Refugee Support Campaign will host ‘Jane Marchese Robinson - Seeking Sanctuary - a history of refugees in Britain’ on Thursday, June 17 from 6.30pm. As part of Refugee Week 2021, writer and historian Jane Marchese Robinson will come to Bridport to talk about her book, Seeking Sanctuary, which focuses on the history of refugees in Great Britain. Jane will be discussing the book and the inspiration behind it with former BBC foreign correspondent Martin Dawes. The event will take place in the Chapel in the Garden, and will raise funds for the Bridport Refugee Support Campaign, which is helping a refugee family settle in Bridport and rebuild their lives.
A CAMPAIGN group to bring a refugee family to Bridport will be holding a stall in the town centre next weekend to help raise funds. The Bridport Refugee Support Campaign is holding a stall at Bucky Doo Square from Saturday, 24 April from 9am to 1pm. Two members of the group s committee, Margie Barbour and Ann Langridge, have been planting seeds and nurturing cuttings for weeks, ready for the spring sale. Ms Barbour said: “Lemon trees grow easily in Syria and so we wanted to see if we could grow some to sell for the campaign. She added: “Growing lemon trees from seeds is quite a challenge, but we were delighted when the seeds did germinate and they have grown into small healthy plants which, with the right care, will develop into lemon trees.
THE CAMPAIGN to house a refugee family in Bridport held an event in Bridport last week. The Bridport Refugee Support Campaign hosted the event at the Bridport Arts Centre from 6pm to 7.30pm on Friday, December 18. The event was a part of the Exile: A Mind in Winter exhibition and project. The team were joined by Hani, a member of a Syrian family who have been resettled in Ottery St Mary in Devon under the same community sponsorship scheme that the Bridport campaign will be using. Hani and a colleague who was involved with the local campaign in Ottery spoke of their experiences and partook in a conversation about how the initiative can move forward.
