Our Story
Over 90 years ago, we began as a private, liberal-arts, two-year college for women. Today, we are still a private, liberal-arts institution but we have grown into a University that offers award-winning educational programs, with all levels of certifications and degrees, to any individual wanting to pursue higher education.
Briar Cliff was founded on September 18, 1930 by the Catholic Franciscan order known as the Sisters of St. Francis. While the order is based in Dubuque, IA, the Sister s went to the area of greatest need when they sought to establish a higher education institution focused on students and centered on values.

Committed to Affordability
We are committed to keeping our education options affordable and accessible to every student. This year, Briar Cliff University was proud to announce our first ever tuition commitment, or tuition freeze. This means that on-campus, full-time, undergraduate students starting in 2021-2022 and beyond will have a new tuition rate that will remain locked in for that student s time at Briar Cliff University, subject to satisfactory academic progress.

Once you have been accepted to Briar Cliff University, the next step of the admissions process will depend on the program you are interested in. Some of our graduate programs have their own individual applications and criteria, but don t worry, our admission team is dedicated to making sure your experience from initial inquiry to enrolled student is a smooth one. Student Support Buildings
We’ve got your back. The average student spends less than 10% of their time each week inside the classroom. That means that 90% of the student experience takes place outside the classroom.

Sand Volleyball
Students will get an email from campus leaders when the intramural sign up periods begin. Campus leaders can help introduce you to people, organize and create a team. Gather your friends and we will see you at the next intramural event!

Intramural season and updated are generally sent to your Briar Cliff University email throughout the years. However, if you have questions, please contact Residence Life and they will help navigate your answer.
