George Floyd, Black Lives Matter and the impact on HE On 25 September 2020, with little more than a month to go in the United States presidential election, and, no doubt, blind to the irony that he was speaking not far from the national historic landmark that had been the home of the Reverend Dr Martin Luther King in Atlanta, Georgia, President Donald Trump delivered a blistering attack on America’s most visible and important civil rights organisation. The president recycled many of the tropes from more than half a century ago used by racist politicians, such as George Wallace, who, upon becoming governor of Alabama in 1963, famously declared “segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever”, and J Edgar Hoover’s Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

UT News Search Button Asian Americans Find Community on Campus Student leaders reflect on racism during the pandemic and on how UT organizations have promoted solidarity By: Diana Lee Alcess Nonot Growing up in Cedar Park, UT Austin human development and family sciences and biology senior Alcess Nonot, who is Filipina, never learned about Asian American history in school. But during her freshman year at UT, she took the course Introduction to Asian American History, which taught her more about her heritage and broadened her community. She became friends with other Asian American students and joined organizations including the Asian Desi Pacific Islander American Collective.

Editorial: Spring 2021 Report Card Administration: C- As we near a possible end to the COVID-19 pandemic and the spring 2021 semester, Binghamton University administration had a lot on their plate. However, in dealing with so many pressing issues, administrators often sought to place Pipe Dream in the middle of these problems rather than handling it themselves. For starters, Pipe Dream staff were surprised to receive an email from BU President Harvey Stenger asking us to look into complaints regarding unsanitary living conditions for students in quarantine housing. While Pipe Dream has reported on such issues twice, the administration has not spoken out about these conditions, delegating all investigative and public relations work to our student news team rather than the administrators employed to do so.
