Transferring to WSU in August 2019 was a challenge for Oluwanifemi Shola-Dare, senior neuroscience major and ASWSU senator, as she tried to navigate through the university’s set of resources. Finishing her last semester at WSU, she hopes developing a comprehensive student resource page will help students better access resources and have an easier college experience than her own.
“Before you come here, [WSU] always says we have resources for students, students, we have resources for low-income students,” Shola-Dare said, “but where are those resources?”
Shola-Dare and other ASWSU leaders, including ASWSU President Curtis Cohen, drafted a proposal detailing plans to create an online platform for students to find all the information they need. She said work on the proposal started this semester.

Six exceptional Washington State University women were honored for their accomplishments, service, and commitment to student success at the Women of Distinction awards ceremony on April 16. The annual event, now in its 15th year, recognizes the incredible achievements of women in the WSU community.
This year’s award recipients represent a range of campuses, colleges, and academic and professional pursuits, but they all have one thing in common: a dedication to making their campuses and communities better places.

Now that places like senior centers, public schools, museums, and parks are gradually increasing operations, Washington State University’s Center for Civic Engagement is getting ready for an increase in service-learning opportunities for students.
It is already hiring more student staff to serve as project leaders in the fall when volunteer opportunities will be at their peak. It’s just one example of the many ways WSU campuses are working to provide students with more in-person experiences.
Ben Calabretta, associate director of CCE, said it is an exciting time for students who are seeking more opportunities to engage with their communities.

This year’s Leadership Awards looked a bit different than years past, but the achievements and contributions of Ohio University students were honored with gusto. The virtual event was hosted by the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Diversity and Inclusion.
