$70,000 cash seized in suitcase at Brisbane Airport
A 28-year-old Sydney man been charged with a proceeds of crime offence, after more than $70,000 in cash was discovered inside a suitcase at Brisbane Airport at the weekend.
AFP Brisbane Airport members were called on Saturday evening (24 April 2021) after airport staff located a checked suitcase allegedly containing a large amount of Australian currency.
Police allege the suitcase contained approximately $70,000 in cash, comprising of $20 dollar and $50 dollar bank notes stored inside a vacuum sealed bag.
It will also be alleged in court that cloves of garlic were stored alongside the money in an attempt to conceal the currency and prevent detection by authorities.

Police lay drug trafficking charges at Brisbane 12 March
Two men, with links to the Mongols Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, will appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning following a protracted operation by the Organised Crime Gangs Group.
Yesterday detectives executed search warrants at Loganlea, Aspley and Deagon addresses and arrested two men allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
This is a result of ongoing investigations relating to a two-kilogram seizure of methylamphetamine from inner city apartments in January 2021, in which the same 30-year-old man was arrested and charged.
A 30-year-old man from Loganlea was charged with trafficking a dangerous drug, possess dangerous drug and breach of bail.
The men will front a Brisbane court on Friday charged with drug trafficking.
Police say the men are linked to the Mongols bikie gang and were arrested on Thursday over the seizure of 2kg of methylamphetamine from inner-city apartments in January.

A 30-year-old man has been charged with drug trafficking, possessing a dangerous drug and breach of bail.
The second man, 33, is accused of drug trafficking and possessing a dangerous drug but is also the subject of three warrants for failing to appear in court.
