The NHS has agreed to include sheltered housing residents in its programme of vaccinations to be delivered on site, according to emails from council officials seen by the Local Democracy Reporting Service. It comes after elderly people in Enfield raised concerns that travelling miles by bus or taxi to reach a vaccination centre could put them at risk of catching the virus – and, coupled with the cost of travel, that could put them off having the jab.

Fears over travelling to get Covid-19 jab in Enfield

By Simon Allin @SimonAllin3 Local Democracy Reporter, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Some fear they could catch the virus while travelling for a jab (Image: Pixabay) Elderly people have raised concerns that travelling long distances for a coronavirus jab could put them at risk of catching the virus. The vaccine to provide immunity against Covid-19 is currently being offered to people over 70 and those considered clinically extremely vulnerable in Enfield and across the country. But this means some face long journeys by taxi or public transport to travel to a vaccination centre. It has led to fears people could catch the virus on the journey – and, coupled with the cost of travel, that could put them off having the jab.
