Xi Wishes France’s President a Speedy Recovery From Covid-19
What’s new: President Xi Jinping on Friday extended his wish for his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, to experience a speedy recovery from Covid-19, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.
Macron tested positive after developing mild symptoms on Thursday. He will self-isolate for seven days, cancel all upcoming trips including a scheduled visit to Lebanon, and afterwards continue to work, according to the French president’s office.
Previously, Xi also extended a similar wish for a speedy recovery to his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, and First Lady Melania Trump after they tested positive for Covid-19 in early October. The pair have subsequently recovered.
BRASÃLIA, BRAZIL Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has launched an attack on coronavirus vaccines, even suggesting that the one developed by Pfizer-BioNTech could turn people into crocodiles or bearded ladies. The far-right leader has been sceptical of the coronavirus since it first emerged late last year, branding it a little flu. This week he insisted he would not be vaccinated, even while launching the country s mass innoculation program. In the Pfizer contract it s very clear: we re not responsible for any side effects. If you turn into a crocodile, it s your problem, Bolsonaro said on Thursday. That vaccine has been undergoing tests in Brazil for weeks and is already being used in the United States and Britain.
Brussels: A host of European leaders were self-quaranting after coming in contact with French President Emmanuel Macron who has tested positive for the coronavirus.

THE Climate Ambition Summit was held on 12 December to mark five years since the Paris Agreement, and saw many world leaders submitting new and updated climate pledges.
The Summit was hosted by the UN, the UK, and France, in partnership with Italy and Chile. It provided a platform for some discussion in lieu of the COP26 climate summit being postponed to next year. Around 75 world leaders, along with business executives and representatives from NGOs, gathered for the virtual summit.
New and updated pledges
Under the Paris Agreement, countries are expected to submit new or updated pledges – known as Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) – every five years. The Summit marks the first time that this “ratchet” system of increasing ambition has been used. NDCs covering 71 countries (the EU submits one NDC) were announced at the Summit or just prior to it.
