HALIFAX As customers lined up outside Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation stores, they were being turned away at one private wine store. Bishops Cellar was open, but only for deliveries or curbside pickup as new rules imposed on private sellers prevented customers from entering stores. Why is a private wine store (or) a brewery considered different than an NSLC store? said Matt Rogers the owner of Bishops Cellar. Garrison Brewery pivoted to curbside and online orders on Thursday, but its owner knows not all Nova Scotia businesses can. We would like to see this reviewed and backtracked because it has real-world implications for small independent producers, said Brian Titus, who is also the president of Craft Brewers Association of Nova Scotia.

In honour of the Bluenose’s 100th anniversary, Garrison Brewery in partnership with Shirwright Brewing are launching a Bluenose Lager.
According to the two companies, the beer takes inspiration from the hard work, determination and tradition that embodied both the building of the Bluenose in 1921 and continues today in craft brewing.
Garrison COO Brian Titus says the beer itself is a German Helles-style lager, “The beer is very much something that would have been drank in Lunenburg around the time of the bluenose and it would have been popular with the german population from that area.”

For Milena Khazanavicius, who is blind, the change means her safety zone of unwinding on a patio with friends and her service dog has been taken away. It s absurd, it s stupid, and I m very angry and very frustrated, the Halifax woman told CBC Radio s
Maritime Noon on Wednesday. I don t think Mr. Rankin completely understands, or has any inclination, how much danger he has placed all of us in by permitting this.
